The **Cartesian plane** ( or number plane ) has a horizontal x – axis and a vertical y – axis.

Any point on a Cartesian plane is described by two numbers called **Coordinates**.

The **x-coordinate** and the ** y-coordinate** are written in brackets. ( x , y ).

The x- coordinate is always written first.
