In fraction problems, the multiplication sign means  ‘of ‘.

Example:

3/4  of  $28   is   3/4  ×  28

5/6  of  3 1/2  cups of sugar  is   5/6  ×  3 1/2

2/3  of  6 hours  is  2/3  ×  6
