levers in our arm

when we bend our arm to lift a weight,
the effort is by the biceps muscle where it joins the bone in the forearm just after the elbow
the elbow acts as the fulcrum
the load is the weight we are lifting

since the effort is between the fulcrum and the load, our forearm acts like a third class lever and a speed multiplier

when we straighten our arm to push downwards while doing a push-up,
the effort is by the triceps muscle
the elbow is the fulcrum
the load is the resistance to our downward push

since the fulcrum is between load and effort, here our forearm acts as a first class lever and a force multiplier
