the volume of a solid is the amount of space that the solid occupies

 

units of volume

1 cm³ = 1000 mm³

1 m³ = 1000 000 cm³

 

 

capacity refers to the amount that a container can hold

 

units of capacity

1000 millilitres = 1 litre  or  1000 mL = 1 L

1000 litres = 1 kilolitre  or  1000 L = 1 kL

 

similarity between volume and capacity

1 L = 1000 cm³

1 mL = 1 cm³

 

volume of a prism

V = AH

where  A  is the area of the base  and  H  is the height
